PADI Course FAQ

Is this a PADI course?
Yes. We are an accredited PADI 5 Star training facility, and only conduct PADI accredited courses.

What is eLearning?
eLearning is the latest way to do dive courses, it's very convenient, you do it in your own time and pace prior to doing your practical work. It saves course time which means you have more leisure time to enjoy your holidays and diving as a new certified diver. You do, however, have access to an instructor during your eLearning should you require some extra assistance on any issue. The course is only available at this stage for PADI Open Water Courses.

Will I be going to the Great Barrier Reef during the course?
All ocean training dives are conducted from our purpose built dive boat. We will take you to the best dives sites available amongst the Whitsunday Island, which are part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

Can I do my course on a live aboard boat?
It is possible to do your dive course on a live aboard boat, however, our courses are structured to enable you plenty of time to learn how to dive. Doing your course on a vessel we find can sometimes be restrictive on time, and some students get sea sick. We also believe it is better you enjoy your live aboard dive trip as a qualified diver, rather than spending your time under instruction. We offer a dive course / cruise package that is excellent value.

Is my instructor experienced, and qualified?
All our Instructors are experienced and well qualified to start and complete your course. In fact, we encourage you to meet them prior to your course, enabling you to ask questions.

Can I purchase dive equipment from you?
Yes. Whitsunday Dive Adventures have a dive shop in Airlie Beach. We offer you great packages when you sign up to do a course with us. We also offer honest advice and recommendations based on your needs and wants...not ours!

HOW DEEP WILL I BE DIVING ON MY COURSE WITH YOU?
The maximum depth for an open water student is 18metres (60feet). The depth during your training dives will vary depending on your comfort levels and competency, at your instructor's discretion. Diving is not about depth! It’s about safety and enjoyment! Once you are qualified as an open water diver, and you want to expand your skills for deep diving you have the option of doing a PADI Specialty Course, or a PADI Advanced Course!...but hey! One step at a time.

CAN I DO MY ADVANCED COURSE AS SOON AS I AM QUALIFIED AS AN OPEN WATER DIVER?
Yes you can! We will, however, at your debriefing, make recommendations to you based on your Instructors observations as to your competency levels. We do, however, recommend that you venture out and do a few dives with a buddy to gain some experience with your new open water certification before rushing out to do an Advanced Course, or Specialty Course.

HOW MUCH WILL MY DIVE COURSE COST THAT I AM GOING TO BOOK WITH YOU?
It depends on what you want to do and how often you want to dive. We can discuss your needs and advise you accordingly. However, you can get started with a course that allows you to dive anywhere in the world, from $265*. Learn more about our exclusive dive course and cruise package.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE?
Everything, there are no hidden costs. However, obtaining a dive medical is your responsibility.

DO I REALLY NEED A DIVE MEDICAL?
Yes. Which must conform to Australian standards AS 4005.1 Approximate cost in Airlie Beach is $45 - $60. If you have obtained one from another country, confirmation must be obtained proving it conforms to AS 4005.1. This is the LAW.

DO I NEED TO HAVE MY OWN MASK, SNORKEL AND FINS TO DO THE COURSE?
No. We provide all equipment for the duration of the course. However, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing your own mask and snorkel. These items become personal, giving greater confidence, comfort and ongoing personal hygiene. However be aware, all of our equipment is soaked in a high hospital grade disinfectant after each use so hygiene during the course is not an issue.

WHAT DOES A PADI OPEN WATER COURSE QUALIFY ME TO DO?
The PADI Open Water Course certifies you Worldwide, to dive to a maximum depth of 18metres with a qualified buddy, independent of a Dive Professional. It also enables you to hire dive equipment from a dive shop, upon presentation and proof of your Open Water Certification.
